Welcome to the School Council Page
School Council Overview
The school council is made up of children who have been voted into membership by their class peers. They meet on a regular basis to talk through and share ideas and proposals that fellow pupils have suggested. They will also help in fundraising ideas for developing new school resources or charity events. All decisions made in the school council are fed back into the classroom by the school council members.
Since September school council has analysed our results from our annual pupil survey. They were very pleased with them as they showed what a great school we are. Next steps they have identified include:
- reducing our extended transition in Summer from two weeks to one
- establishing more displays of children’s work outside classrooms around school
- investigating the possibility of water fountains in classrooms
School council help promote the following key British values across school:
- the rule of law
- individual liberty
- mutual respect and tolerance of those with differing faiths and beliefs
To this end, they will be visiting Selby District Council to see democracy in action. They will be taking part in a mock council meeting about a real-life issue and sharing this experience on their return back to school. Watch this space…
